Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She's wrong.
Thoughts:
3/5 stars.
I feel as though I didn't enjoy this book as much as everyone else, and I think it was because of the characters. Whenever your read a review, if they liked the book, then they most likely sided with the protagonists. If they didn't, it was most likely because they thought the characters were plain stupid. That's how I felt about Mara.
Mara was just a crazy character for me. I felt she was ungrateful, dull (other than her killer-power thing), and whiny. I also didn't like Noah Shaw, contrary to every other ovary-bearing human in the planet. He had this major mood-change on the middle, going from cocky to... sweet. Their relationship just didn't seem real, more like lust. They go from hating each other to being in love. IN A SPAN OF A WEEK. Well, I think a week. In real life, I most likely would not gravitate toward them. Especially Mara. God, she would be a bummer of a friend.
I did like her brother Daniel and her friend... ah, crap I forgot his name. James? Jimmy? I know it had a J. Anyways, I liked him, though he wasn't in it as much.
The writing was quite good. I enjoyed it. You could feel the eerie-ness and suspense in it. But I felt it was scattered, and that some parts just weren't needed. But how this book went from mediocre to average was the ending. I found it really surprising. Though you could figure it out.
I don't know, I thought the ending was like a freaken' mind-f***.

I agree with you on this one! Mara drove me crazy, I didn't like her at all. Noah, was nothing special either. Definitely a disappointing read!
ReplyDeleteYes! Not only one who wasn't into it!
ReplyDeleteOh. And sorry for late response. I've been kind of out of it.
