Synopsis:
Sometimes sorry isn't enough....
It's winter break in Ascension, Maine. The snow is falling, and everything looks pristine and peaceful. But not all is as it seems....
Between cozy traditions and parties with her friends, Emerly loves the holidays. And this year's even better--the guy she's been into for months is finally noticing her. But Em knows that is she starts things with him, there's no turning back. Because his girlfriend is Em's best friend.
On the other side of town, Chase is having problems of his own. The stress of his home life is starting to take it's toll, and his social life is unraveling. But that's nothing compared to what's really haunting him. Chase has done something cruel... something the perfect guy he pretends to be would never do. And it's only a matter of time before he's exposed.
In Ascension, mistakes can be deadly. And three girl--three beautiful, mysterious girls--are here to choose who will pay.
Em and Chase have been chosen.
Thoughts:
3/5 stars.
The cover is absolutely marvelous, along with the synopsis. Both these details are pretty much why I chose this book, hoping it would completely blow my freaken' brains it. Sadly, my brains are still intact.
This book wasn't bad. I mean, I wouldn't say it was awful. I think why this book was so mediocre was because if the characters. They were all selfish, and frankly, I wouldn't want to be friends with any of them. Except JD. He was sweet, quirky, and in my opinion, freaken' cool. Maybe if the characters had more appealing qualities, I would've liked this book more.
I did like the twist with the Furies, though. But their appearance was short-lived, mainly showing up at the end, where the book really picks up. The first half of the book was stuff that we really didn't care nor need to have known.
And Emerly. Oh Emerly. Her name is cool, I have to give her parents props for that, but seriously. I just didn't get nor relate to her. At all. She knew her actions were wrong, yet kept them coming. I don't know, I just didn't understand her actions and thoughts. I liked Chase a little more than Em, but again, he was very self-centered just whiny throughout the book. Now that i think about it, both protagonists were whiny throughout.
Though the ending did have kind of this plot-twist-thing going on, I am not sure if I will be picking up the next one.
