Nataly's Review: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand.

Synopsis:
Clara Gardener has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place-- and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a new world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make-- between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be able to face her own destiny.

Thoughts:
4/5 stars.
Our world is filled with mighty fine, good looking book covers. Anyways, I assumed that this would be another angel romance (i.e. Fallen, Hush, Hush, Halo) where the girl figures out that she's a half-angel, meets an angel boy that can be described as brooding, dark, sexy, and all that blah. But boy was I wrong. Clara is a quarter of an angel (because her grandfather was a full angel, her mother was a half angel, and blah, blah, blah) but even though she's not full on angel doesn't mean that she doesn't have the full on wings, powers, and most importantly, a purpose. A purpose is sorta like something your obliged to do otherwise you'll be damned and turned into a Black Angel. You know your purpose by seeing this dream-like thing, a vision. When Clara sees her vision and figures out where it takes place, her mother uproots Clara and her brother Jeffery from sunny California and takes them to Wisconsin (Which, may I say, the fantastic imagery in this book takes you).
I really liked the protagonist Clara. She was witty, smart pretty much the perfect girl, but I felt that the author should have made Clara more relatable, maybe given her a weakness. I especially loved Clara's friend Amy, who was curious, quirky, and not really afraid to be herself. I really loved Clara's mom at the start and felt like she was my own, but towards the end her mother started getting moody and PMS-y. Made me want to jump into the book and scream at her. At first, I was really confused on who I was suppose to be rooting for, Christian or Tucker? I felt obliged to root for Christian (I mean, he was the man of her freaken dreams) but was compelled to like Tucker's boyish charm and wit. Oh, and did the school year and summer seem to go by really quick in their time? I felt the ending was a little too fast paced that I had to read it a couple of times, but it summed up most of your questions but left some things hanging so that you would be on the edge of your seat for the next one.
To wrap this up, I would say this is a great fast-paced read that you should definitely pick up.
