Synopsis:
Ponyboy can count on his brothers. And on his friends. But not on much else besides trouble with the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up "greasers" like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect--until the night someone takes things too far.
Thoughts:
5/5 stars.
I pretty much devoured this book on a single plane ride. No kidding, this book is like no other and really takes you into the world of gangs and shows the real the meaning of friendship and family.
I instantly fell in love with Ponyboy and his brothers. They all had different personalities, and AWESOME names. If I am graced with a son when I am older, I am definitely naming him Sodapop. But I feel my favorite was Ponyboy. He was so vulnerable and thoughtful that you just wanted to take him out of the book and just hug him. The rest of the gang all had different, unique personalities and vulnerabilities that showed you the other side of them. I also loved how they really cared about their hair and wanted their appearance to be attractive yet bad boy at the same time. The Socs were a different story.
Even though the greasers did barely nothing to them, the Socs still felt the need to treat them poorly and give them hurtful beatings. It made no sense at all! But this story was otherwise beautifully crafted and kept you on your seat wanting to know more. The different situations that Ponyboy was put in at the age of 14 were truly different and made you wonder how you would react in his shoes. I would definitely pick up this book!
