Synopsis:
According to her best friend Frankie, twenty days in Zanzibar Bay is the perfect opportunity to have a summer fling, and if they meet one boy every day, there's a pretty good chance Anna will find her first summer romance. Anna lightheartedly agrees to the game, but there;s something she hasn't told Frankie--she's already had that kind of romance, and it was with Frankie's older brother, Matt, just before his tragic death a year ago. Beautifully written and emotionally honest, this debut novel that explores grieve, and ultimately, how to make the most of every single moment in this world.
Thoughts:
3.8/5 stars.
This is a really great book if your looking for a good summer read thats not all chick-lit. It shows the different ways people grieve and how their unique relationships affect them.
I really think the author really got these characters and their feelings down. Frankie was a character I had lots of mixed feelings about. At some points I really just wanted to throttle her, and wondered how Anna could put up with her, but a other times I felt bad for her, I mean she just lost her brother! And other times I just wanted to slap her mother to make her see what was happening right in front of her eyes.
The setting, Zanzibar Bay, made me really crave a beach. Sarah Ockler had some great imagery in her book. Is Zanzibar Bay a real place. Either way this book is good for anyone craving a summer read with a deeper meaning.
