Nataly's Book Review: Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma.

Synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings. As defacto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. And the stress of their lives--and the way they understand each other so completely--has also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love. Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love. They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue. And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain; a love this devastating has no happy ending.
Thoughts:
4.5/5 stars.
I am not going to lie, I was a little wary in picking up this books because the plot is so very different and a little... odd. But do I regret it? Absolutely not.
So pretty much what this book is about is this really, really, REALLY dysfunctional family. You got the alcholic mom, the siblings having feelings for each other, and the fact that the siblings who had these awkward feelings for each other were the ones taking care of the cute little kids, now coming to realization that their life is not normal. Since the kid's dad split, Lochan and Maya have been the caretakers of the little-er ones. I guess that after time went by of playing parents, they sort of developed feelings for each other that actual mother/fathers would have for each other.
To be honest, I really didn't feel like Lochan and Maya truly loved each other. Throughout the story, I didn't see any big development changes within them. Also, I think it was a kinda, "you're there" situation. These were the two character you were supposed to be rooting for, but I really wasn't. I mean, I didn't want them to be sucked into a black hole, but I really hoped they would have a that moment where they REALIZE that their making out with their freaken BROTHER/SISTER. Trust me, if i had a sibling, I would not go around macking around with them.
The writing though was freaken amazing. And the plot. I seriously do not know how this plot took root in her mind. Seriously. Creative. THE WRITING. BEAUTIFUL. Seriously. I was able to imagine everything and everywhere they went.   Especially with Lochan's fear to talk in front of people, I felt she really showed us an inside look into his mind and how he took all the comments from students and the reasons for his irrational actions in front of others. Oh, did I mention how much I LOATHED their mom? She sucked. Though I did like the little ones, especially Kit. I've always liked the rebellious ones.
Even though I wasn't really a trooper for Maya and Lochan's relationship, the ending absolutely stunned me. Gaaaawwwwd. Why do authors feel the need to write really devastating endings?
Really, the only reason I took off .5 points was because of the immaturity Lochan and Maya showed. But other than that, a total favorite for me!
